(LONDON, ON): Canadian health care organizations looking to maximize their supply chain savings got a shot in the arm today thanks to a newly formed partnership between Medbuy Corporation, Canada's leading healthcare Group Purchasing Organization, and MedAssets Analytical Systems, a recognized leader in healthcare supply chain analytics and technology.
"While Medbuy has done an exceptional job of maximizing savings for its members since its inception in 1989, we've known there was untapped potential hiding in both our data and our members' data," notes Medbuy's President and CEO Rick Cochrane. "Medbuy's new Data Management Program, which uses MedAssets' suite of tools along with their considerable expertise in data analysis, will help our members to unlock information that will lead to further savings in the hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars."
The partnership is a first-of-its-kind in Canada. "No other GPO or internal hospital purchasing department in Canada is offering this level of data scrutiny," says Cochrane. "Our members will benefit enormously by being able to find pricing discrepancies, compliance savings and additional opportunities to harness their collective purchasing power through the development of new national contracts."
Statistics show that as much as 25 to 35 percent of purchase orders and invoices do not match, and off-contract spend can approach 50 percent of total supply spend. "These are figures our clients are quite obviously keen to reduce," notes Mike Cassady, President of MedAssets Analytical Systems.
"Medbuy's member healthcare organizations are no different than our US customers in their desire to find money that's essentially being left on the table. We're glad to be able to assist in providing the necessarily robust tools to get this important job done."
Medbuy's Data Management Program is one in a line of new technology initiatives designed to enhance the services provided to members. "Hospitals spend up to 20 percent of their global budgets on supplies," says Cochrane. "It's Medbuy's job to ensure no stone goes unturned when it comes to maximizing any and all opportunities relative to this vital part of hospital operations."
